FAQs

Who is eligible to apply?
BAFTA Crew Film and TV is now open for writers, directors and producers as well as ‘below the line’ craft practitioners with 2-4 years professional experience.

What do you consider a main team credit?
A main team credit is in your department on either a broadcast or feature project. This includes assistant and coordinator positions, floor or production runners but not trainees, or dailies.
An outline of the main team roles can be found on the Creative Skillset website

I am a trainee, am I eligible for BAFTA Crew?
BAFTA Crew is not aimed at trainees, instead it is for those already working in the industry, with two or more credits (broadcast or feature). Trainees should visit the Creative Skillset website for more information.

How will BAFTA Crew members be selected?
Crew will be selected by a jury of HoDs and other professionals that will include at least one representative from all of the departments featured in the programme as well as a representative from BFI NETWORK and BAFTA cohorts. Crew will be selected based on the volume and quality of their experience and their application form.

I have already participated in the BAFTA Crew programme, am I eligible for BAFTA Crew 2017?
Participants from previous BAFTA Crew programmes are welcome to re-apply if they feel they would benefit from joining the programme for another year.

Where will the live masterclasses take place?
The live masterclasses will take place in venues in major cities throughout the UK. This is subject to change based on the geographical make-up of the final group, with travel bursaries available for those based more than 50 miles away from the venue.

Do I need to pay a joining fee?
You will need to pay the joining fee when you are offered a place, an email will be sent to you to confirm. Fees are £30 if you're based in London/£25 if you're outside London (hardship bursaries are available).

Why can’t I see the full annual programme of masterclasses now?
We work with the industry’s best practitioners who won’t always know their availability months in advance. We will endeavour to give Crew members prior notice when programming masterclasses. Once selected for BAFTA Crew 2017, you will have access to an online calendar of events and be notified with any updates or changes.

Who will deliver the live masterclasses?
BAFTA masterclasses are delivered by professionals at the highest end of the industry, selected from our pool of winners, nominees and members. Our BFI NETWORK x BAFTA Crew speakers will be technical and creative behind-the-scenes talent working in the film industry. Previous speakers include BAFTA-nominated and Oscar-winning hair and make up designer Sandy Powell, cinematographer Yves Belanger and BAFTA-winning costume designer Jenny Beavan.

Do I have to be living in the UK or is the programme open for overseas applications?
Applicants need to be currently living and working in the UK. However, we welcome those with international experience on their CV. Previous work experience in the UK is not a necessary requirement so long as your current position is UK based.

I am a very experienced practitioner looking for training that will develop my technical skills. Is this programme for me?
This programme is not devised as a technical training course and is not designed for one specific craft. BFI NETWORK x BAFTA Crew will give you access to established HoDs and a deeper insight into their working practices and the work of your colleagues. The programme is designed to help you develop your skills through dialogue with our speakers, who are among the best in the international film industry, and also through networking with fellow Crew members. BAFTA Crew will also provide an environment in which you can meet other professionals at a similar level in the industry and gain a broader understanding of their work.

Will BAFTA cover my travel to and from events?
You are expected to cover your own travel and accommodation. We do have a limited number of bursaries available to supplement travel costs for those travelling to an event more than 50 miles from their home address. More details will be available once you have been accepted and before you pay your fee.
