About us

BFI NETWORK exists to support, develop and champion new filmmakers looking to kick-start their career.

Made possible through National Lottery funding, we collaborate with film organisations and leading cultural venues across the UK to provide short film and early feature development funding, industry-backed professional development and networking support to producers, writers and directors of all ages.

Meet the team

Jess Loveland - Head of BFI NETWORK

Jess oversees the national strategy for the BFI NETWORK working closely with the UK-wide team of Talent Execs and colleagues in the BFI Film Fund. Jess has worked within NETWORK for five years, previously she was a regional Talent Exec with Film Hub North developing the work and careers of new and emerging filmmakers, and supporting them through the production of short films and the development of early stage feature projects.

Jess is constantly inspired by the scale and ambition of the NETWORK project, the passion of her colleagues engaging with filmmakers across the country and the opportunity to support and promote the next generation of filmmakers wherever they are based in the UK.

Caragh Davison - BFI NETWORK Co-ordinator

Caragh works across BFI NETWORK’s UK-wide activity with a focus on designing our flagship talent development programmes such as NETWORK@LFF and NETWORK Weekender, as well as managing the NETWORK website and supporting the delivery of our partner work with BAFTA, British Council and BIFA among others. Her mission is to burst the industry bubble and throw the doors open to new filmmakers from all walks of life.

James Weddup - Project Partnerships Manager

James manages some of our NETWORK projects and partners, working with the Talent Executives across the UK. He’s been at the BFI Film Fund for four years, and has focused on our producer funding through the Vision Awards, our support for documentaries and our UK-wide collaborations. His favourite things about NETWORK are our wonderful partners and Talent Executives across the UK, and the chance to see exciting new voices forming through the shorts that we fund.

Beth Webb - BFI NETWORK Digital Co-ordinator

Beth runs the BFI NETWORK website and social media, and dabbles in events co-ordination when needed for NETWORK@LFF and NETWORK Weekender. Beth commissions articles from emerging writers and filmmakers for the site, and loves to read your interviews and articles, especially those that come right from your gut. If you’ve got a great idea for the site, why not pitch to us?

Got a questions for us? No problem! Here’s a handy guide to the BFI NETWORK site, which offers nationwide advice and insights into the film industry:

Where can I enquire about funding for my film?

BFI NETWORK is broken down into hubs, so that you can receive support and funding on a regional level. Head to our Funding Finder section for more information on funding, plus industry-focused events and support in your area.

I have a short film or script that I’d like to submit for review, where can I do this?

Head over to the Postroom and get yourself an account! Here you can submit your work (for free), and BFI NETWORK Talent Execs plus the wider industry can take a look at what you’ve got to offer.

I could do with some additional help and advice on filmmaking…

We publish excellent articles (if we do say so ourselves) that encompass all manner of filmmaking voices, from award-winning writers to first-time directors and breakout stars. Our News and Features section has it all.

Where can I find some examples of BFI NETWORK-funded shorts?

We’ve hand-picked a selection of short films made by emerging filmmakers in our Funded by NETWORK section that you can view at your leisure! Keep up to date with film and events news by following us on Twitter.
